Rescue’s January Survey: The State of South Africans’ Finances

Ondanks die onlangse verlaging in brandstofpryse en ’n afname in inflasie, sê Annalien van der Poel, Bedryfshoof van Debt Rescue dat Suid-Afrikaanse verbruikers steeds geen werklike verligting ervaar nie. 

Die pryse van basiese kossoorte bly buitensporig hoog, en selfs wanneer afslag beskikbaar is, is dit nie genoeg om die impak van die afgelope jare se prysstygings teen te werk nie.  Intussen bly rentekoerse hoog, wat beteken dat mense met skuld steeds swaar kry, terwyl inkomste in meeste gevalle nie verhoog nie.

Volgens Debt Rescue se navorsing, oorleef talle Suid-Afrikaners internet deur skuld aan te gaan om kos te koop. Die regering het aangekondig dat BTW nie verhoog gaan phrase nie en dat sommige produkte dalk by die BTW-vrygestelde lys gevoeg kan phrase, maar Van der Poel meen dit sal minimale verligting deliver. Meer as die helfte van ’n huishouding se kosmandjie bly steeds belasbaar.

Sy waarsku ook teen misleidende advertensies wat beweer dat skuld van meer as R50 000 “met die helfte verminder” kan phrase. Volgens Van der Poel, is dit belangrik om die regte feite te hê: onder skuldberading phrase skuld nie afgeskryf nie, maar maandelikse betalings phrase verlaag en die terugbetalingstydperk verleng – volgens die bepalings van die Nasionale Kredietwet. 

Dis ’n wettige en verantwoordelike oplossing vir mense wat sukkel om hul skuld te bestuur, sonder om meer skuld aan te gaan. Debt Rescue moedig mense aan om hul regte te ken en hul skuld op ’n volhoubare manier te hanteer.
