The rising value of white maize has sparked critical concern, with Debt Rescue CEO Neil Roets.

“Maize meal isn’t just a dietary staple; it’s a lifeline for tens of millions who rely upon it for every day sustenance,” Roets mentioned. With white maize costs already up 55% from final 12 months, the projected will increase are set to impression households already struggling beneath the burden of a cost-of-living disaster.

Monetary Misery and Meals Insecurity

Roets pointed to the troublesome decisions households face as meals costs surge. “When costs for such necessities soar, households are pressured to make heartbreaking decisions, akin to skipping meals or sacrificing different requirements like faculty charges or utility funds,” he defined. 

At Debt Rescue, Roets has witnessed how these pressures push households deeper into monetary hardship, with rising meals insecurity threatening widespread starvation, significantly amongst kids.
